Supportive one to one sessions with Airline Pilot and Hypnotherapist Ted West, to help you feel calmer and more in control.
I often meet passengers who struggle with different anxieties about flying. For some it is vertigo, claustrophobia or the sense of being trapped. Others feel a wave of panic during take off or landing, while some become anxious at the slightest hint of turbulence.
Often the source of this fear is hard to pin down. It can show up as a persistent worry that something might go wrong at any moment.
For many travellers, the fear is so strong that it casts a shadow over the entire journey. Instead of enjoying the excitement of reaching a destination, the thought of the return flight looms before the holiday has even begun.

A unique and holistic approach to overcoming the fear of flying
Calming the Mind and Body
Drawing from my dual background as an airline pilot and a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist & Psychotherapist, I offer a unique and holistic approach to overcoming the fear of flying. My therapeutic practice integrates Clinical Hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help individuals reframe the unconscious thought patterns that fuel their anxiety. This therapeutic framework allows me to guide clients in transforming fear into empowerment, equipping them with practical tools to manage their emotions and thoughts.
Understanding Flying
My experience in aviation enables me to demystify the technical aspects of flying. I explain what happens during takeoff, turbulence, and landing in a straightforward and reassuring manner. By providing clarity on the safety protocols, and the mechanics of flight, I help passengers understand that flying is one of the safest forms of travel available today.
Building Confidence
Whether a passenger’s fear is rooted in a past traumatic experience, misinformation about aviation, or simply a feeling of lost control, my goal is to help them replace that fear with understanding, confidence, and a sense of calm. I strive to create a supportive environment where individuals can not only confront their fears but also embrace the thrill of air travel. Together, we can work towards transforming your flight experience into one of enjoyment and serenity, allowing you to focus on the adventure that awaits at your destination.
Why Online?
In my opinion, hypnotherapy delivered online is just as effective, if not more so than traditional in person sessions. Many of my clients actually prefer working with me from the comfort of their own home, where they feel relaxed and at ease. Online sessions also allow me to work with individuals from around the world, including the UK, Europe, Brazil, India, Canada, Dubai and beyond.
Online sessions remove geographical limitations, giving clients the freedom to choose the therapist who best suits their needs and expertise, rather than being restricted to someone nearby. It also eliminates the need for travel, saving both time and energy.

What a Hypnotherapy Session Looks Like
Each session follows a simple, supportive structure:
Initial Consultation: We begin with a relaxed conversation about your own specific concerns and what you’d like to achieve.
Induction & Relaxation: I guide you into a calm, focused state - similar to deep daydreaming - where your mind becomes receptive to positive change.
Exploration & Therapeutic Work: Using tailored techniques such as visualisation, suggestion, and subconscious reframing, we work on reducing the fear response and building confidence.
Emergence & Debrief: You return gently to full awareness, feeling relaxed but alert. We’ll discuss what you experienced and how to apply the insights between sessions.
Ongoing Tools & Practice: You may receive follow-up guidance, personalised recordings, or short relaxation exercises to reinforce the progress at home.
Why Hypnotherapy Helps for Flight Anxiety
For most people, the fear of flying isn’t really about aircraft or altitude - it’s about how the mind and body react to uncertainty and loss of control. Even when logic says flying is safe, your subconscious can still treat it as a threat.
That’s where hypnotherapy helps - by changing the automatic pattern behind that reaction.
Working with the Subconscious Mind
During each session, I use gentle relaxation and focused attention - often described as a trance state - to connect directly with your subconscious mind.
This is where stored memories, learned fears, and protective responses live.
In this calm, receptive state, the mind becomes open to new associations: safety instead of danger, confidence instead of panic.
Over time, this process retrains both thought and body to respond differently to flight sensations such as turbulence, noise, or take-off acceleration.
What Hypnotherapy Can (and Can’t) Change
Hypnotherapy isn’t magic, and it won't try to erase who you are or make you love flying overnight. What it will do is help reduce the intensity of fear, break the habit of anticipatory anxiety, and restore a sense of calm control.
The goal isn’t to become “fearless”, but to feel safe even when you’re not in control - a mindset that makes all the difference as you step onto an aircraft.
Techniques I Use
Each client’s journey is different, but common techniques include:
- Guided visualisation - mentally rehearsing calm, confident flights.
- Anchoring - associating feelings of calm with specific cues, such as breathing or touch.
- Positive suggestion - using therapeutic language to reframe fear-based thinking.
- Regression therapy (where appropriate) - resolving the root experience that first triggered anxiety.
- Self-hypnosis training - teaching you to recreate calm on your own, before or during travel.
Integrating with Other Approaches
Hypnotherapy works beautifully alongside other approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, and psychoeducation.
Where CBT helps you challenge anxious thoughts consciously, hypnotherapy complements it by reshaping how those thoughts feel at a deeper, automatic level.
It also pairs naturally with my Guided Meditations to help calm the body’s stress response between sessions - teaching your nervous system to relax through repetition and familiarity.
These methods all share the same goal: helping you reconnect with a sense of safety, confidence, and control - not just during your journey, but long before you reach the airport.
Safety and Ethics
You remain fully aware and in control throughout every session. Hypnosis is not sleep, nor does it involve giving up your will - it’s simply a natural state of focused calm.
All sessions are conducted ethically, with care, professionalism, and respect for your pace and comfort.
The Outcome
In time, hypnotherapy helps you change your relationship with flying altogether. Instead of pushing through with fear, you learn to fly with understanding, trust, and a calm confidence that lasts — both in the air and beyond.
Many of my clients describe their first calm flight as a turning point - not just in travel, but in how they respond to life’s challenges in general.
If you’d like to hear how others have overcome their own fear of flying, you can read a selection of real experiences on the Success Stories page. Each story is different, but they all share a common theme: it’s entirely possible to fly comfortably again, and to even enjoy the journey.
